One of the most ancient treasures of Indian culture, tradition and heritage is the science of Yog.   The Garud Puran defines Yog as the union of the individual soul with the Supreme Soul.  The true meaning of Yog is much beyond mere physical exercises for the body.  Yogasanas are only a part of the complete science of Yog, which works on all aspects of an individual: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.  It takes into purview the mind, the body, and the soul of a person in his or her aim of reaching the Absolute.

The opposite of Yog is viyog. At present the material souls are not in a state of Yog, we are in a state of viyog.  Separation from God is called viyog and that is the root cause of all diseases.  Due to viyog, souls have been covered by the material energy called Maya and they are ignorant of the Absolute Truth.  Under the influence of Maya, the souls are thinking of themselves to be the body.  However the body is constantly changing.  This body which appears to be stationary, changes so rapidly that scientists estimate that within one year 98% of the atoms in our body change; yet we feel that I have not changed.

What is that which is not changing?  The Vedas say, “That which is not changing is the real you.”  The soul which is a part of God, which is supposed to be in Yog with God is the real you.  But in viyog the soul has forgotten its true identity.  In this forgetfulness of the self, the soul identifies with the pleasures of the body and makes them the goal thinking – “How can I give happiness to this body? What can I see? What can I eat? What can I hear?”  In our ignorance, we ceaselessly endeavour to give happiness to our body. This is called the state of bhog and it is the reverse of Yog. Contrary to Yog, at present we are in a state of bhog due to which we suffer.

Rog or disease is a manifestation of bhog.  Because of viyog, the forgetfulness of the self leads to the desire of bhog and that bhog is making us move, our body, mind and intellect in a direction not in union with the Supreme Creator. It is because of this bhog that we are suffering from rog.  This is the Vedic understanding of health.  So if we wish to give people health, from the spiritual perspective we have to teach them true Yog.

That is why, through Jagadguru Kripaluji Yog we are not just promoting Yogasanas.  The body-oriented asanas only increase physical health and stability.  However, the absolute Yog is not just about the body, it is also about the mind and the intellect dimension.  Unless we rectify our mind with constant meditation on God, we cannot get rid of even the physical diseases.  Therefore, the five arms of JKYog simultaneously offer the benefits of improved physical, intellectual, and spiritual wellbeing. The five arms of Jagadguru Kripaluji Yog are:

  1. Radhey Shyam Yogasans
  2. Radhey Naam Pranayam
  3. Subtle Body Relaxation
  4. Roopdhyan Meditation
  5. Science of Healthy Diet

Sincere and regular practice of all the aforementioned five disciplines of Jagadguru Kripaluji Yog will lead to absence of ‘Rog’ and experience of peace and tranquillity.

” Hari ka viyogi jeev govind radhe, sancho yog soi jo hari se milade.”………Since eternity the soul is disconnected from God. True yog unites the soul with his supreme beloved God.

What a wonderful explanation by Swamiji and true meaning of Yog. This simplifies the difficulties of understanding the purpose of it and human body. It is not just a physical science, we need connection between body, mind and soul to god, then it brings peace and tranquility in life. This is absolutely sensible and informative.

The absence of ‘YOG’ (which unites the soul with the Absolute truth) is called ‘VIYOG’ (separation from God) and makes us constantly move in the state of ‘BHOG’ (giving happiness to the body through five material senses) and results in ‘ROG’ (manifestation of diseases). As mentioned in the article the complete science of Yog is more than just yoga asanas (physical exercises for the body) it also has mental and intellectual dimensions. As there is a saying ‘the quality of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts’ and we can develop the sublime thoughts by immersing the mind in the divine love or true yog. Through sincere and regular practice using the five arms (Yoga Asanas, Pranayam, Subtle body relaxation, Roopdhyan, and Science of healthy diet) of the JKYog system one can achieve peace, happiness and improve the qulaity of our daily lives. Thank you Swamiji for revealing the science of true Yog!

The author has clearly explained the true meaning of Yog, It’s not the asanas or physical exercise that are practised all over the world today, it’s more connected with the mind. The mind needs to think of God all the time, that’s true Yog.
