Greed creates the gap between what we need and what we want. It generates desires for greater wealth, loftier positions, and heightened prestige. However, in truth, we require very little to lead a contented life.

The Vedic scriptures refer to anger, envy, greed, desire, as mānas rog (mental illnesses). The problem is that we often do not even realise that we have a mental affliction. We know we get angry, but we do not know that anger is a diseased condition.

Let us turn our gaze inward and confront the Ravan within—burning the fires of lust, anger, and greed to purify our own hearts. Happy Dusshera!

Understand that people are imperfect. If they behave selfishly, what is so surprising? They are under maya, with the material imperfections of anger, greed, desire, and pride. It is only natural that they will make mistakes. When we are empathetic, we will be more forgiving towards their misbehaviours.
