विश्वामित्र महान ऋषियों में से एक सबसे प्रसिद्ध ऋषि हैं। उनका वशिष्ठ जी के साथ सर्वोच्च ऋषि बनने के लिए किया गया महाकाव्य स्तर का संघर्ष, एक अत्यंत रोचक कथा है। वे जन्म से ब्राह्मण नहीं थे, बल्कि एक क्षत्रिय (यानी योद्धा) थे। रामायण वास्तव में एक कथा के भीतर अनेक कथाओं का संग्रह है। Vishwamitra is one of the most renowned of the great sages.
